Author guide
Register
If you don’t yet have a user account, you can request one from contact@freelegalweb.org.
Just advise your preferred username and tell us what you want to write about.
You can login and create / manage your articles and posts and your profile using a standard WordPress dashboard at freelegalweb.org/wp-admin/
Login with your username and password.
If you don’t know / forgot your password, using the Lost password facility you can set a new password via your registered email account.
The dashboard
It’s a standard WordPress dashboard with a couple of extras.
As Author you can manage your profile and your own posts but not others’ posts.
Your profile
Please complete your profile via the Users option. Keep it brief. We suggest you add a link to your LinkedIn (or other) full profile; use standard html for the link.
To associate a profile photo or avatar with your account (and any other online account registered with the same email address), go to gravatar.com.
Post Categories and Tags
On the right of the Post Edit form, select the appropriate Post Category. We’re currently employing only a broad categorisation by area of law – Housing Law, Property Law etc and – for blog posts about the project – the category FreeLegalWeb.
You can freely create/apply your own Post Tags.
Post Areas and Types
We’ve extended standard WordPress to classify content firstly by Post Area: either Article or Blog. Select the appropriate Post Area.
If you’re posting an Article you’ll then need to select the Post Type:
Article
Case note
Guide (textbook stuff, broader scope than Article)
Review (of book, website etc)
Syndicated content
Much FreeLegalWeb content is syndicated from key sites. We’re using a plugin called FeedWordPress to handle this. We still need to modify FeedWordPress to set the appropriate Area and Type, so at present articles are being queued for review and publishing by admin (or the author).
If you already publish suitable articles elsewhere and would like to syndicate them to FreeLegalWeb, please contact us.
